New Bicycle Maintenance Course Locations 2026 | 1226 Bikes Australia

New Locations, New Dates — Our Bicycle Maintenance & Tuning Short Courses Are Expanding Across Australia

If you’ve been sitting on the fence about joining one of our 3-hour bicycle maintenance or tuning short courses, 2026 is your year. We’ve expanded our course schedule to cover more cities, more dates, and more of the locations our riders have been asking about.

Here’s everything you need to know about where we’re running, what’s new, and how to grab a spot.

Where We’re Running Courses in 2026

Our 3-hour BYO bicycle maintenance and tuning short courses now run across eight major cities and regions in Australia:

  • Melbourne
  • Vermont
  • Cranbourne
  • Chatswood
  • Miranda
  • Wetherill Park
  • Brisbane
  • Adelaide
  • Canberra
  • Geelong
  • Gold Coast
  • Sunshine Coast

All venues are bike-friendly with plenty of parking — because you’re bringing your own bike, we make sure you can actually get it there easily.

New cities don’t happen overnight. Each location is carefully chosen based on where our riders are, where we can run quality small-group sessions, and where we can put a proper mechanic in front of you. If your city isn’t on the list yet, it might not be far off — get in touch and let us know where you’re based.

What We Run: Three Hands-On Courses

We run three distinct 3-hour short courses, each designed around a specific skill set. All of them share the same philosophy: you bring your own bike, and you learn on it. Not a demo bike. Not a workshop stand-in. Your actual machine — the one you ride every day.

🔧 BYO Bicycle Maintenance Short Course — $155

This is the foundation. If your riding experience is more kilometres than workshop hours, this is where to start.

In three hours you’ll learn how to keep your bike clean, safe, and running smoothly — and more importantly, you’ll learn how to spot problems before they turn into expensive repair bills. By the end of the session, you’ll know your bike better than most riders ever do.

Best for: Commuters, casual riders, beginners, and anyone who’s tired of being caught off-guard by mechanical issues mid-ride.

⚙️ BYO Bicycle Tuning Short Course — $175

This one’s for riders who want their bike to feel dialled. Crisp gear shifts. Confident brakes. None of that rubbing, clicking, or vague-lever nonsense.

In three hours you’ll learn how to adjust gears so they shift reliably under load, fine-tune your brakes for real stopping power and feel, and eliminate the small irritants that quietly make every ride slightly worse than it should be.

Best for: Regular riders, enthusiasts, anyone chasing that smooth, pro-level feel on their own bike.

🔗 BYO Bicycle Drivetrain Short Course — $275

The drivetrain is the heart of your bike — and most riders have no idea what’s happening inside it. This course changes that.

Chain wear, cassette condition, derailleur limit screws, cable tension, hanger alignment — we cover the mechanics that keep your drivetrain running efficiently and extend the life of your most expensive components. This is the course for riders who want to go deeper.

Best for: Enthusiasts, cyclists with expensive groupsets, riders doing high kilometres, and anyone who’s had a drivetrain problem they couldn’t diagnose.

What Makes Our Courses Different

There are plenty of YouTube videos out there. Some of them are good. But a video can’t watch you install a cable with too much tension and correct your technique on the spot. It can’t look at your specific bike and explain why your rear derailleur is doing that thing it’s doing. And it definitely can’t answer questions.

That’s what you get with 1226 Bikes.

Small groups. We deliberately keep numbers low so every participant gets real time with the mechanic — not a lecture from across the room.

Professional mechanics. These aren’t enthusiasts who read a lot of manuals. Our instructors are trained, experienced mechanics who’ve seen every bike problem imaginable.

Your bike. Learning on your own machine means everything you pick up applies immediately to your actual riding situation. No translation required.

All tools supplied. You bring the bike. We bring everything else — workstands, tools, parts reference materials.

Gift Vouchers — The Best Present for Any Cyclist

Know someone who needs this? We sell gift vouchers for all three courses.

A 1226 Bikes gift voucher is the kind of present that actually gets used — and that makes a real difference to how someone rides. Particularly for cyclists who already have every piece of kit they could want.

FAQs: What People Ask Before They Book

Do I need to be experienced? No. The Maintenance Course is designed specifically for riders who are new to bicycle mechanics. You don’t need any prior knowledge — just a bike and a willingness to get your hands dirty.

What type of bike can I bring? Road bikes, mountain bikes, gravel bikes, commuters, hybrids — all welcome. If it has gears and brakes, we can work with it. (Single-speed riders, reach out and we’ll confirm.)

What if I’ve never done anything mechanical before? Perfect candidate for the Maintenance Course. We start from scratch and build up from there.

How do I know which course is right for me? If you’re not sure where to start, the Maintenance Course is the right answer. It gives you the foundation everything else builds on. You can always do Tuning next.

Can I do multiple courses? Yes — and plenty of riders do. Maintenance first, then Tuning, then Drivetrain. Each one goes deeper.
