  • Duration 3 hours
  • Average group size 6 (small groups — lots of individual attention)
  • Difficulty 2 out of 5 — no experience needed
  • What to bring Just you and your bike
  • What we supply All tools, workstands, and materials

Leave With a Bike That Actually Works

Gears that skip. Brakes that feel spongy. That noise you’ve been ignoring for months. In 3 hours you’ll index your gears so they shift crisply every time, set your brakes for real stopping confidence, tension your cables correctly, and leave knowing your bike is dialled — because you dialled it yourself.

What You’ll Learn in This Bicycle Tuning Course

  • Rear derailleur indexing — crisp, precise shifts with no chain skip
  • Front derailleur adjustment — clean, reliable front shifts across all chainrings
  • Cable tension tuning — understand how cable stretch affects shifting and how to fix it
  • Brake adjustment — reach, pad alignment, and lever feel for rim and disc systems
  • Electronic groupsets — introduction to tuning Shimano Di2, SRAM AXS, and Campagnolo EPS
  • Reading your bike — spot drivetrain and brake problems before they become expensive

Who This Bicycle Tuning Course Is For

Anyone whose gears or brakes aren’t performing the way they should. You don’t need a mechanical background — your instructor works through everything on your actual bike.

It suits riders who’ve done our Maintenance Course and want to go further, cyclists frustrated by skipping gears or soft brakes, e-bike owners, and road or MTB riders who want to stop paying a mechanic for routine adjustments. Groups average just 5 — our smallest class size — so you get real one-on-one time.

Maintenance Course or Tuning Course — Which One Is Right for You?

  • 3 Hour Bicycle Maintenance Course ($155) — wheels, tyres, chain care, brake pads, and roadside repairs. Start here if you’re new to bike mechanics.
  • 3 Hour Bicycle Tuning Course ($175) — gear indexing, derailleur setup, cable tension, and brake tuning. The next step once you’re comfortable with the basics, or if tuning is your specific goal.

Many riders do both — on the same day or separately. Together they give you the full picture.

Sound Familiar?

You’ve lived with these long enough:

The course fixes all five. In 3 hours.

What You'll Know How to Do

Every skill is hands-on. You do it on your own bike, guided by a mechanic standing next to you.

This Is How We Actually Teach

Most bike courses are demonstrations. You watch. We do it differently — you do every adjustment yourself, on your own bike, while a professional mechanic guides you through it step by step.

Who Signs Up

You don’t need any mechanical experience. If you can ride a bike, you can do this course.

Common Questions

Do I need to bring my own bike?

Yes — that’s the whole point. You tune your own bike, with your own components, in the same conditions as every ride you do. You leave with a bike you’ve adjusted yourself and know how to maintain.

What groupsets are covered?

All of them — Shimano (including Di2), SRAM (including AXS/eTap), and Campagnolo (including EPS). Road, mountain bike, gravel, hybrid and e-bike groupsets are all welcome.

Does it work for electronic shifting?

Yes. We cover both mechanical and electronic groupsets including Shimano Di2, SRAM AXS/eTap, and Campagnolo EPS. Electronic systems have their own specific adjustments and we walk through them in the session.

My bike has hydraulic disc brakes — is that fine?

Absolutely. We cover both rim and disc brakes, hydraulic and mechanical. If your brakes need attention, we’ll work through them in the session.

I have no mechanical experience. Is this too advanced?

No. The course is designed for riders with no mechanical background. We start from basics and build to everything you need. The small class size (max 6) means you get the time and attention you need.

How is this different from watching YouTube tutorials?

You’re doing it, not watching it. Every adjustment is made on your own bike, with a professional mechanic standing next to you giving real-time feedback. The difference between watching and doing is significant.

Will my gears stay in adjustment after?

Yes — because you understand why they go out of adjustment and how to fix it. That’s the difference between a one-time service and actually knowing your bike.

Can I book for a group?

Yes. We accommodate corporate teams, cycling clubs and group bookings. Call 0497 084 527 or email sales@1226.bike to discuss options.
